the image is not merely a surface is part of an ongoing exploration of photography as an embodied, temporal process, and an attempt to manifest the latent image. What exists before an image becomes visible, and how might I give form to that threshold? These ideas emerge from the darkroom as both a physical site of alchemical transformation and conceptual space of liminality.
In my practice, the darkroom is a place where time collapses and extends; where making, printing, and framing an image become part of the same continuum. This process resists automation and instead embraces attention, slowness, and touch. Light, chemistry, and paper converge in an act of transformation. The image is not merely a surface; it also becomes a lens through which we can behold a thing.
