These works emerged from a desire to use and reflect upon the entire colour darkroom process, also to reduce waste in my studio practice. Test strips are an integral part of printing in the colour darkroom, they enable me to determine the colour balance, exposure time and most importantly, if the image is in focus. Yet, often these strips are often discarded or sit in a box in my studio. So I decided to give them a second life. As darkroom paper is light sensitive, it needs to be stored in rolls, tucked safely away in sealed boxes. I decided to mount the test print on a curved surface and create a frame that resembled the way these materials and final prints spend most of their lives in my studio, rolled up neatly in boxes.
